Relief efforts to conclude at end of February
February 15, 2008 - 6:40pm
Donations to the Washington Farm Bureau Flood Relief Fund will be accepted through the end of February, at which time the final disbursement of funds to recovering family farmers and ranchers will take place in the impacted areas.
Thus far, the $250,000 in generous contributions to the Fund have been distributed to family farmers and ranchers recovering from the December storms.
The Fund is being used to assist family farmers and ranchers in southwest Washington with equipment repairs, animal care, and other immediate needs that resulted from the December storms. Farm Bureau leaders (farmers and ranchers) in the communities affected by flooding and windstorms are determining how the funds are distributed.
In addition, the USDA Farm Service Agency announced on Jan. 8 that Congress has extended agricultural disaster assistance programs to cover December storm losses. The extension pertains to the Livestock Compensation Program, Livestock Indemnity Program and Crop Disaster Program.
To make a financial donation to the Flood Relief Fund, contact Washington Farm Bureau at (800) 331-3276 or use the Flood Relief Pledge Form.
Donations by cash, check, and credit card (Visa and MasterCard) are being accepted. Checks should be made payable to Washington Farm Bureau, with "Flood Relief" in the memo portion, and mailed to Washington Farm Bureau, P.O. Box 8690, Lacey, WA 98509.
Cash donations may be delivered to the Washington Farm Bureau office at 975 Carpenter Road NE, Suite 301, Lacey, WA 98516.
One hundred percent of the donations received will be sent to local farm and ranch contacts for relief distribution to farmers and ranchers.
Contributions to the Washington Farm Bureau Flood Relief Fund are not tax deductible as a charitable contribution.
