Biomass Crop Assistance Program Deadline Extended

(Spokane, WA) September 15, 2011 - U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Director Judy Olson today announced producers will have until close of business on Friday, September 23, 2011, to sign up for participation in the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) within approved project areas. This extends the original deadline by an additional week. “We welcome the deadline extension," said Judy Olson, State Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency, which administers the program.  "The application period coincided with a late grain harvest in our state. Forecast on Columbia Basin Long-Term Water Needs Focus of Workshops

How much water will be needed to support communities, farms and fish in the Columbia Basin and where it will
come from is the focus of a near-final report from the Washington Department of Ecology’s Office of Columbia River.

“The Columbia River Basin Long-Term Water Supply and Demand Forecast” is being developed by Ecology with assistance from
Washington State University and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. A long-term supply and demand forecast is produced every
five years, and is due to the Legislature on Nov. 15, 2011.

A series of public workshops is scheduled for Sept. 7, 8, and 9, 2011, in Richland, Wenatchee and Spokane to share particulars of the report

Farm Family and American National are bringing rural America’s bounty to consumers’ tables, one farm stand at a time, through a new free iPhone app, now available from the App Store.   

Through this easy-to-use app for the iPhone or iPod Touch, consumers can locate farmers’ markets, local festivals, locally made products, family-friendly farms, local wineries, breweries, eateries and agritourism venues in their town or wherever the road takes them. The venues may be categorized several different ways and users can map out directions directly from the app wherever they may be located.
