Susette Kelo famously took on the City of New London, the state of Connecticut and Pfizer Corporation in a battle to save her kelohome and those of her neighbors. The battle led to the 2005 Kelo v. New London decision, in which the U.S. Supreme Court essentially said that governments have the legal power to displace property owners for economic development -- that is, people can be booted from their homes and businesses if anybody else can be found who would pay higher taxes at the site. Since that infamous ruling, 43 states have reformed their eminent domain laws (Washington is not among them) to protect the rights of individual property owners against eminent domain abuse.  Susette has appeared on national television programs, before Congress, in national publications and spoken to audiences across the nation.
