OLYMPIA - The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) is sponsoring a two-day pesticide disposal event May 4-5 in Yakima, but the deadline to sign up is March 23.

The event will be held May 4 and May 5 for persons who contact WSDA by March 23.

WSDA is encouraging farmers, businesses, residents and landowners to inspect their storage sheds, barns, shops and garages and look for agricultural and commercial-grade pesticide products that are no longer needed or wanted. WSDA's waste pesticide program has been very successful in Yakima County, collecting 27,000 pounds of unwanted pesticides last year in the county and more than 40,000 pounds in 2007.

Come join Whitman County Farm Bureau members as we discuss the latest activities related to livestock grazing and water quality issues, as well as instream flows and other water quality issues. John Stuhlmiller Washington State Farm Bureau's Director of Government Relations will be leading the discussion. Lunch will be provided.

  • Sharpen your understanding of your rights as a producer and water right holder
  • Learn about recent enforcement action by the Department of Ecology related to livestock access to water
  • Protect yourself and your farm or ranch by knowing what to do and who to contact when issues arise.
