Preventing Slip, Trips, and Falls

slipsA substantial number of injuries in the workplace are the result of slips, trips, or falls. To avoid such injuries:

1. Keep your shoes free of foreign material such as mud.
2. Clean up spills immediately.
3. Be wary of loose surface material such as gravel and rocks.
4. Slow down on wet or icy surfaces.
5. Be careful on uneven terrain and dry surfaces such as grassy slopes, which can cause a loss of traction.
6. Do not hurry or take dangerous shortcuts when working around equipment or in the shop.
7. Special safety regulations must be met when employees are working above ground level or around deep pits or trenches. Be sure proper protective safety devices and equipment are used to minimize fall hazards.
