Webhost: Where
your website is hosted. Your webhost provides space and resources to
run your website.
Registrar: A
company authorized to register internet domain names. "Your Registrar"
the company through which you register your domain.
DNS: Domain
Name System is a naming system for computers that translates
Domain
names meaningful to humans into the numberical identifiers used by
computers. (Similar to a phone book)
CNAME: Canonical
Name is a record that is an alias to another record. For ex:
test.example.com points to google.com
CMS:
A Content Management System is an application that can be used by
multiple people to easily update information. Typically there are no
coding skills required.
Google Apps:
A collection of web applications provided by Google for Website
hosting, email, and collaboration. (It's free!!)
Enter the domain you
already own or puchase a domain.
Step 3:
Enter the information
necessary to setup a Google Apps account.
Step 4:
Create your Administrator
account.
Step 5:
Google requests that you change
the cname record for your domain (You can do this process later)
Before Clicking "I've completed the steps above" finish Step 6 in this
document.
Step 6:
Prove that you own your
domain. Login to your Registrar's
website and edit the DNS associated with your domain. Go into your Domain's DNS
Control panel.
Create the CNAME requested by google in Step 5.
Step 7:
Launch the Google Apps Setup Guide. This section will take
some time but
is important if you want to setup your site correctly and have a good
grasp of all the features available.
Step 8:
Create users for the domain.
